Tanya Smith

Tanya Smith is licensed to practice law in California (since 2013), and holds an inactive license for Nevada (since 2014).

Tanya received her J.D. from Pacific McGeorge School of Law, after receiving her master’s degree in education and a B.A. in communications. Tanya began representing unions in 2013, first working in Nevada for educators, nurses, and other union members. After returning to California, she has represented a longshore workers’ union and litigated against public and private employers.

Tanya served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Lawrence K. Karlton in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California in 2011, and during law school she was a part-time summer law clerk at CalPERS, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and California Indian Legal Services.

Tanya’s trial experience includes a 2019 jury trial involving whistleblowing, retaliation and discrimination claims brought by a former California Assembly employee. She has also arbitrated union grievances and represented union trustees in benefit claims.
